Do you know your number?

​When I ask our clients this question they often think I am mad! I am not asking them to tell me their number, but simply asking them if they know it.
 
Your number should follow you around just like ‘007’ follows James Bond.
 
Do you know yours? Do you carry it with you everywhere?

​I encourage you to be like Bond and carry your number with you at all times. Know it inside out and backwards and have a firm belief in your number at all times. Your number should drive everything you do, both consciously and subconsciously.
 
So, what do I mean by knowing your number? Let me explain.
 
Do you know the amount of pre-tax income you want to earn from your business?
 
 
This is the key piece of information you need to have. This is knowing your number. How much money do I want to earn?
 
Do you know exactly how much business you need to generate across your product mix in order to achieve your number?
 
If you don’t know your number, and you don’t fully understand the activities that will drive this number, then you could be setting yourself up for a big fright at the end of your financial year. So, don’t cower away from knowing your number. Believe me when I say (from bitter experience), that it is better to know upfront what your number is. It is better to know upfront what you need to achieve your number. It is too late after the ship has sailed.
 
I know you’d much prefer to be with your camera than to be working on your business numbers -most photographers do!

PS It does not matter what your number is, It might be 1,000, it might be 1,000,000. Your number is personal to you and your circumstances. This is not about the actual number, but knowing what you need to do to make your number.
