Branding is much more than your logo and your colours; these are only two small components of your brand. The best explanation of branding that I’ve heard is that your brand is ‘how your customers think of you, your service and your company’. Your brand needs to be reflected in everything. Think about things like your photography style, the products you offer, your customer service and sales processes, your website, your blog, your logo, how your studio looks, how you interact with your client, even your own personality. Your brand is all of these things. In defining your brand, you need to reflect your values, your mission, and your vision. If your brand does not reflect these, there will be inconsistencies in its delivery and it is impossible to consistently present yourself as someone you are not. So, now that we have ascertained that your brand is much more than just your logo and is more about the impression your client or your prospective customer has of you, how then should you brand your presentation products? There is no “one size fits all” answer. All I can suggest is that you put yourself in the shoes of your client and ask yourself this: ‘If I bought this service and product from a photographer, what would I want?’ I think you will then find that the right answer will come to you pretty quickly. The only other consideration then is a financial one i.e. if you are branding to your client, are they paying you enough to justify ordering these products one at a time? You know at 3XM that ‘up selling’ is a key mantra of ours. It is a key consideration in deciding what products to develop. So within your branding choices lies a possible upsell opportunity. Let me explain this further. You could adopt a pricing strategy where branding to your client is available for an extra ‘X’ pounds, euros or dollars. Or, in your top packages, you could include branding to your client. These are just two simple examples; there are many different ways you could approach this. The other option is to dual brand to both your client and your company. Take some time to think, reflect and then test what works best for you, your client and your business.
At 3XM, we understand how important branding is to your business. That’s why we have invested heavily in TED. TED stands for Totally Endless Designs.
